OUR Location:
The Garden Rooms are located within the grounds of Lime Kilns Farm, in the tiny hamlet of Lonton. We are equidistant between two beautiful villages: Middleton in Teesdale, where you’ll find a local butcher, antique shop, two eating pubs, a delicatessen/cafe, a pharmacy, fuel station and a late night co-op store. Mickleton is also just one mile away under the magnificent via-duct by car or a short walk along the disused railway track and also has two excellent pubs. The Garden Rooms are perfectly placed to explore the treasures of Upper Teesdale with its stunning walks, scenery and waterfalls.
Visit Barnard Castle, a bustling market town with a superb offering of antique shops, bakers and eateries – just nine miles from Lonton. Explore the riverbank and woodland walks near to the castle or The Bowes Museum which houses internationally significant collections of fine and decorative arts and also holds several exhibitions throughout the year.
Lime Kilns Farm has been our family home for twenty years and is also the home of Lonton Coffee Company. Our artisan coffee roastery was founded here ten years ago www.lonton.co.uk
As you’d expect freshly roasted coffee will be a plenty in The Garden Rooms at Lonton.
You’ll notice on your arrival, Carlos and Izar, our two alpacas grazing in the paddock.
Teesdale is a fabulous area – officially the darkest mainland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and is a brilliant place to experience stargazing in a truly dark place Pictured here is a local landmark Kirkcarrion just a stone’s throw away from Lonton. A beautiful walk to reach a copse of pine trees, surrounded by a stone wall, on a hilltop near Middleton-in-Teesdale. The trees, which were planted in Victorian times, cover a tumulus which is reputed to be the burial place of a Bronze Age chieftain, Prince Caryn, who ruled before the days of the Roman.
Just 5 miles from Lonton Garden Rooms, discover the force of nature at High Force, one of the most impressive waterfalls in England, located at Forest-in-Teesdale, in the heart of the Durham Dales. The River Tees has been plunging into this gorge for thousands of years but the rocks it reveals are far more ancient – with origins dating back over 300 million years!
Why not go for lunch or a cream tea at the High Force Hotel, they even serve Lonton Coffee!
